    β decay of semi-magic 130 Cd: Revision and extension of the level scheme of 130 In

    The β decay of the semi-magic nucleus Cd130 has been studied at the RIBF facility at the RIKEN Nishina Center. The high statistics of the present experiment allowed for a revision of the established level scheme of In130 and the observation of additional β feeding to high-lying core-excited states in In130.     β-Decay Half-Lives of 110 Neutron-Rich Nuclei across the N = 82 Shell Gap: Implications for the Mechanism and Universality of the Astrophysical r Process

The 40 new half-lives follow robust systematics and highlight the persistence of shell effects. The new data have direct implications for r-process calculations and reinforce the notion that the second (A ≈ 130) and the rare-earth-element (A ≈ 160) abundance peaks may result from the freeze-out of an (n, γ) ⇄ (γ,n) equilibrium. In such an equilibrium, the new half-lives are important factors determining the abundance of rare-earth elements, and allow for a more reliable discussion of the r process universality.     First observation of γ rays emitted from excited states south-east of 132Sn: The π g−1 9/2 ⊗ ν f7/2 multiplet of 132In83

    Type II shell evolution in A = 70 isobars from the N ≥ 40 island of inversion

    The level structures of 70 Co and 70 Ni, populated from the β decay of 70 Fe, have been investigated using β -delayed γ -ray spectroscopy following in-flight fission of a 238 U beam. The experimental results are compared to Monte-Carlo Shell-Model calculations including the pf+g9/2+d5/2 orbitals. The strong population of a (1+) state at 274 keV in 70 Co is at variance with the expected excitation energy of ∼1 MeV from near spherical single-particle estimates. This observation indicates a dominance of prolate-deformed intruder configurations in the low-lying levels, which coexist with the normal near spherical states. It is shown that the β decay of the neutron-rich A=70 isobars from the new island of inversion to the Z=28 closed-shell regime progresses in accordance with a newly reported type of shell evolution, the so-called Type II, which involves many particle-hole excitations across energy gaps.     Recommendations for multicentre clinical trials involving dosimetry for molecular radiotherapy

    Multicentre clinical trials involving a dosimetry component are becoming more prevalent in molecular radiotherapy and are essential to generate the evidence to support individualised approaches to treatment planning and to ensure that sufficient patients are recruited to achieve the statistical significance required. Quality assurance programmes should be considered to support the standardisation required to achieve meaningful results. Trials should be designed to ensure that dosimetry results from image acquisition systems across centres are comparable by incorporating steps to standardise the methodologies used for the quantification of images and dosimetry. Furthermore, it is essential to assess the expertise and resources available at each participating site prior to trial commencement. A quality assurance plan should be drawn up and training provided if necessary. Standardisation of quantification and dosimetry methodologies used in a trial are essential to ensure that results from different centres may be collated. In addition, appropriate uncertainty analysis should be carried out to correct for differences in methodologies between centres. Recommendations are provided to support dosimetry studies based on the experience of several previous and ongoing multicentre trials

    Compartmental Model for <sup>223</sup>Ra-Dichloride in Patients With Metastatic Bone Disease From Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer.

    Purpose223Ra-Dichloride is used for treatment of patients with metastatic bone disease from castration-resistant prostate cancer. The uptake and mechanism of action of 223Ra-Dichloride is not well understood. The aim of this work was to develop a compartmental model for 223Ra-Dichloride in patients to improve understanding of the underlying mechanisms.Methods and materialsA compartmental model was developed based on activity retention data from 6 patients (2 treatments of 110 kBq/kg 223Ra-Dichloride) for plasma, bone surfaces, small intestines, large intestines, and excretion data. Rate constants were extracted. Rate constant variability between patients and treatments was assessed. A population model was proposed and compared with the established International Commission on Radiological Protection-67 compartmental model.ResultsA single bone compartment cannot accurately describe activity retention in the skeleton. The addition of a second bone compartment improved the fit to skeleton retention data, and the Akaike information criterion decreased. Mean rate constants of 4.0 (range, 1.9-10.9) and 0.15 (0.07-0.39) h-1 were obtained for transport from plasma to first bone compartment and vice versa. Rate constants from first to second bone compartment and back of 0.03 (0.02-0.06) and 0.008 (0.003-0.011) h-1 were calculated. Rate constants for individual patients showed no significant difference between patients and treatments.ConclusionsThe developed compartmental model suggests that 223Ra-Dichloride initially locates at the bone surface and is then incorporated into the bone matrix relatively quickly. This observation could have implications for dosimetry and understanding of the effects of alpha radiation on normal bone tissue. Results suggest that a population model based on patient measurements is feasible
